TGS Wins European Offshore Wind Site Characterisation Contract

Oslo-listed seismic data specialist TGS has secured a significant contract for offshore wind site characterisation in Europe, marking a key development in the renewable energy sector. The Ramform Vanguard survey vessel is scheduled to commence data acquisition in early August, with the contract expected to last approximately three weeks.

Project Details

The project will employ TGS's Ultra High Resolution 3D streamer technology to deliver detailed imaging of shallow subsurface targets. This technology is crucial for the development of offshore wind farms, providing the necessary data to ensure optimal site selection and construction.

"We are pleased to secure more offshore wind site characterisation work for the 2026 Europe season," said Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS. "With further tenders currently in the market, we are actively pursuing opportunities to extend this year’s acquisition campaign into the fourth quarter."

Implications for the Logistics Sector

The deployment of the Ramform Vanguard in European waters highlights the growing demand for specialised maritime logistics services in the renewable energy sector. This project underscores the need for logistics managers and freight forwarders to adapt to the increasing volume of offshore wind projects, which require precise and timely delivery of equipment and personnel.

Recommended Actions for Operators

  • Monitor Project Timelines: Logistics operators should keep track of the project schedule to anticipate any changes in demand for shipping and support services.
  • Enhance Capabilities: Companies should consider investing in technology and training to handle the specific requirements of offshore wind logistics.
  • Engage with Stakeholders: Building strong relationships with companies like TGS can provide insights into upcoming projects and potential business opportunities.

Watch List

  • Tender Opportunities: Keep an eye on new tenders in the offshore wind sector as TGS and other companies continue to expand their operations.
  • Technological Advancements: Stay informed about advancements in seismic and survey technologies that could impact logistics and operational strategies.

This contract not only reinforces TGS's position in the renewable energy sector but also signals a broader trend towards increased investment in offshore wind projects across Europe. Logistics operators should prepare for the evolving demands of this growing industry.
