India is steadily emerging as a preferred global manufacturing destination under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India 2.0. This initiative aims to transform India into a self-reliant nation by boosting its manufacturing capabilities.
Quality as a Foundation
Nidhi Khare, Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, emphasized that quality is not merely a manufacturing objective but the foundation of consumer trust. Addressing the FICCI-BIS conference on ‘Quality Systems for Global Manufacturing Competitiveness’ in New Delhi, she highlighted the need for India to focus on becoming a quality leader for global markets over the next 25 years.
"The competitiveness of a nation will depend on the ability to build resilient and future-ready manufacturing ecosystems," said Nidhi Khare.
Aligning Standards Globally
Sanjay Garg, Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), noted that around 94% of Indian standards are aligned with global standards, with efforts underway to align more.
