UPL has intensified enforcement against patent infringement, warning of strict legal and financial action against any entities manufacturing, selling, or importing lookalike versions of its patented herbicides Triskele and Trishuk. According to a company statement, raids were conducted in May and June with enforcement authorities across multiple locations in northern India.
Enforcement Raids
The company identified products in the market with branding and packaging closely resembling Triskele and Trishuk, sold at significantly lower prices, potentially confusing farmers. Raids were carried out in:

During these raids, authorities seized materials at manufacturing units and collected evidence related to distribution networks and associated parties. The company indicated the matter will be pursued through legal channels, with necessary action taken against involved entities.
Company Warning
UPL reaffirmed it will pursue all necessary legal measures against manufacturers, distributors, and retailers involved in sale of infringing products. The statement warned: "We want to send a clear message that any individual or entity found manufacturing, offering for sale, selling or importing products that infringe UPL’s intellectual property rights will face strict legal action."
Accountability extends across the value chain, the company said, including manufacturers, distributors, dealers, and sellers. UPL specifically urged stakeholders dealing in 2,4-D Sodium Salt 44%+ Metribuzin 35% + Pyrazosulfuron-Ethyl 1.0% WDG products not manufactured by UPL Ltd or marketed by UPL Sustainable Agri Solution Limited or Swal Corporation Ltd to immediately cease such activities.
Farmer Advisory
UPL urged farmers and channel partners to remain vigilant when purchasing crop protection products. The company advised carefully verifying product packaging, manufacturing and expiry details, and other key information before purchase. Products sold at unusually low prices may not be genuine and could adversely affect crop performance over the long term.
Broader IP Protection
The company has intensified action against manufacturing and sale of suspected lookalike versions of its patented herbicides Triskele (marketed by UPL SAS) and Trishuk (marketed by SWAL). The statement noted that manufacturers of lookalike products adopt brand names and packaging closely resembling originals to create confusion. UPL cautioned that even offering such products for sale without authorisation may amount to infringement and attract legal consequences.
