ICAR’s African Swine Fever vaccine to bolster India’s biosecurity
ICAR announced an indigenously developed live attenuated vaccine against African Swine Fever, developed at the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal. The vaccine comes after ASF outbreaks in Assam and Mizoram caused an estimated ₹1,258 crore in combined losses. ICAR said the vaccine will help reduce pig mortality, minimise economic losses and improve farmers' livelihoods.

US Confirms Screwworm Return After 60 Years, Deploys Sterile Fly Strategy in Texas
The USDA confirmed the first US case of New World screwworm in a Texas calf since eradication in 1966. Officials are expanding sterile fly production to 400 million per week, investing in new facilities in Mexico and Texas to contain the pest that threatens livestock and has caused 2,070 human cases in Central America since 2023.
