Sugar Industry Seeks 100% Exemption from Mandatory Jute Packaging in 2026-27

ISMA and NFCSF have jointly urged the government to grant sugar a 100% exemption from mandatory jute packaging in Jute Year 2026-27, citing carcinogenic jute batching oil, quality deterioration, and high costs. The Standing Advisory Committee has already cut the jute packaging share from 20% to 15% pending an independent expert study. The outcome will shape packaging costs for India's sugar industry and raw jute allocation.
