RBI Proposes Sweeping Changes to Deepen Debt Markets, Open Term Money to Corporates
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed comprehensive reforms to deepen debt markets, allowing corporate bodies to lend in the term money segment for the first time. The draft norms also introduce total return swaps in credit derivatives, raise primary dealers' borrowing limits, and extend trading hours. The changes mark a shift from the 2021 framework that restricted these markets largely to banks and primary dealers.
