At the Adani Group annual general meeting (AGM), chairman Gautam Adani unveiled plans to develop 10 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2035, marking the conglomerate's entry into the nuclear energy sector. He also disclosed a record Rs 1.5 lakh crore infrastructure investment in FY26, representing over 30% of all new private-sector capital expenditure in India that year, according to a Business Today report.
Nuclear Foray: Adani Atomic Energy
Adani said land has already been identified for the proposed nuclear venture, Adani Atomic Energy. He described the initiative as a step towards securing India's long-term energy security amid rising power consumption and geopolitical uncertainties. "Our entry into nuclear energy through Adani Atomic Energy is another confident step towards securing India's long-term energy future," Adani said, according to a PTI report cited by Business Today.
The 10 GW target by 2035 positions the group early to meet India's growing requirement for reliable, clean, round-the-clock electricity, he added.
Record Infrastructure Investment
Adani highlighted that the group's infrastructure investment in FY26 reached Rs 1.5 lakh crore, the highest ever, accounting for more than 30% of India's total private-sector capex for the year. "FY 2025-26 was one such year. It was a year when the world became increasingly fragmented, energy security once again moved to the forefront of national priorities, and technology became closely linked with sovereignty," Adani said.
He also referenced the Rs 25,000-crore rights issue completed earlier in 2026, calling it "a referendum on our credibility" after "some tried to create doubt." Investors demonstrated confidence at a time when questions were being raised about the conglomerate, Adani noted.
Power Sector Expansion
The group's power sector expansion is led by Adani Power, which is implementing what Adani called the country's largest private-sector investment programme in electricity generation. Capital expenditure exceeds Rs 2 lakh crore over the next five years, aiming to increase generation capacity to 45 GW.
At Adani Energy Solutions, the transmission order book expanded to Rs 72,000 crore, supported by projects such as the Khavda-South Olpad HVDC transmission corridor. Adani said the company remains the only private-sector player in India with demonstrated expertise in HVDC technology.
Low-Carbon and Gas Partnerships
In low-carbon energy, Adani announced a partnership with Bhutan's Druk Green Power Corporation to jointly develop 5,000 MW of hydropower capacity, strengthening regional energy cooperation while adding renewable baseload power.
In gas distribution, Adani Total Gas crossed 1.1 million residential piped natural gas connections during the year and plans to expand its network further.
