Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL) has announced a significant step towards boosting India's domestic metal production by approving a contract with Lohum Materials Pvt Ltd to restart operations at the Gujarat Copper Plant. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to secure critical mineral supply chains and meet the rising demand from various sectors, including power, construction, and electric vehicles.
Strategic Partnership
The agreement with Lohum is structured as a 'Revenue Sharing Model' and is initially set for 20 years, with a potential extension of five years. This collaboration is expected to revitalize the Gujarat Copper Plant, a key unit of HCL, and contribute significantly to India's metal production capabilities.
Technical Collaboration
In addition to the Lohum deal, HCL has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Engineers India Ltd (EIL). This partnership aims to leverage EIL's engineering and consultancy expertise to support HCL's expansion and modernization plans. The MoU covers a wide range of services, including engineering, detailed design, and advanced technical solutions.
