Škoda Peaq Large SUV to Become Automaker’s Most Expensive EV Yet

Škoda is preparing to launch its most expensive electric vehicle yet: the Peaq, a large seven-seat SUV that will sit at the top of the Czech automaker's EV lineup. According to a report by WIRED, the Peaq will be built on the proven MEB platform used across the Volkswagen Group, making it the second-largest model on that architecture after the retro ID.Buzz van.

New Flagship for Škoda

The Peaq is expected to be 16 feet, 5 inches long and will be available in a seven-seat configuration, according to WIRED. It is based on the Vision 7S concept first shown in 2022, though the production version will drop some concept features such as suicide rear doors and a futuristic center-seat interior. The production model will instead adopt a minimalist, angular design that resembles the smaller Epiq EV, but with a more balanced and graceful proportion given its larger dimensions.

Škoda, headquartered in Mladá Boleslav, has not yet released technical specifications, but WIRED notes that the longer wheelbase of the Peaq suggests a larger battery similar to the ID.Buzz and ID.7. The Vision 7S concept had an 89-kWh battery, which is likely to appear in the production model.

Market Positioning and Pricing

"Škoda ranks among Europe’s most successful EV manufacturers," according to WIRED, citing the popularity of the Enyaq and the current best-selling electric car in Europe, the Elroq. The upcoming Epiq, expected to cost around $30,000, will target the affordable end of the market.

In contrast, the Peaq will push into territory previously held by sub-premium brands such as Volvo. WIRED reports that it will "undoubtedly be the most expensive Škoda ever." Whether customers will accept a high-priced Škoda remains to be seen, but the success of more expensive versions of the Enyaq and the combustion-engine Kodiaq suggests there is demand.

Competition and Platform

The Peaq will compete with other large electric SUVs from Renault and Kia, as well as with sibling models such as the VW ID.Polo, ID.Cross, and Cupra Raval. WIRED notes that the Peaq will be one of the highlights of the MEB platform, sharing technology with the Elroq and Enyaq.

Production and Availability

WIRED states that official presentation of the Peaq is expected "soon," but no specific production timeline or factory location has been disclosed. Given that Škoda's EV production is centered in Mladá Boleslav and the nearby Kvasiny plant, those sites are likely candidates. However, the report does not mention capacity, investment, or employment figures for the new model.
