Fortified Rice Brands Launched to Boost Nutrition in UP

Three fortified rice brands—Nutri Crown Fortified Rice by Shree Ram Foods, Nutri Pro Rice by VistaarX, and Grainova Poshan Rice by Jain Industries—were unveiled at a workshop in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance nutrition through food fortification.

Advancing Nutrition in Uttar Pradesh

Satish Chandra Sharma, Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, emphasized the importance of food fortification in addressing micronutrient deficiencies. He praised the collaborative efforts of Millers for Nutrition, powered by TechnoServe, in promoting fortified staples across the state.

"Such collaborative initiatives will play an important role in ensuring that nutritious food reaches more households and contributes to a healthier and stronger Uttar Pradesh," said Sharma.

Expanding Consumer Access

Monojit Indra, Senior Practice Lead at TechnoServe, highlighted the significance of expanding fortified rice availability through commercial markets. This move is expected to increase consumer access to better nutrition, with Uttar Pradesh playing a key role in this advancement.

Transformative Role of Millers

Abhishek Shukla, Country Program Manager at Millers for Nutrition India, noted the transformative role millers can play in improving nutrition while building sustainable businesses. The support provided by Millers for Nutrition includes technical assistance, capacity building, and market development.

Industry Leaders Speak

Rishabh Jain, Director at VistaarX; Shubhanshu Shukla, Director at Shree Ram Foods; and Tarun Goyal, Partner at Jain Industries, emphasized the growing importance of fortified rice in improving nutritional outcomes.
