India's technology services industry is generating an estimated $10-12 billion in revenue from artificial intelligence (AI) services, with nearly a quarter of companies moving AI projects from experimentation to production, according to industry body Nasscom, as reported by PTI.
AI Services Revenue and Skilled Workforce
Nasscom, speaking at the Nasscom US CEO Forum in New York, said that the industry is generating an estimated $10-12 billion in AI services revenue. The body also reported that more than 2 million professionals are skilled in AI, with 100,000 to 200,000 trained in advanced AI capabilities. Additionally, 85% of technology service providers now have agentic AI platforms. According to PTI, Nasscom expects agentic AI—systems that can autonomously act on behalf of users—to unlock an additional $300-400 billion addressable market for technology services by 2030 across areas such as legacy modernisation, AI operations, cybersecurity, and governance.
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| AI services revenue | $10-12 billion |
| Companies moved AI to production | Nearly 25% |
| Professionals skilled in AI | Over 2 million |
| Trained in advanced AI | 100,000–200,000 |

| Expected additional addressable market by 2030 | $300-400 billion |
Enterprise Adoption and Challenges
According to PTI, industry leaders said AI is creating fresh growth opportunities for technology services rather than replacing traditional IT work. Nasscom President Rajesh Nambiar noted that enterprises will increasingly require specialised partners as AI deployments move into production.
"Enterprises will have to bring together models, applications, data platforms, cloud environments, cybersecurity controls, regulatory requirements and industry systems into a reliable operating model. The value of IT services will increasingly lie in making these systems work together securely, efficiently and at scale," Nambiar said.
Ravi Kumar S., CEO of Cognizant and Chair of the Nasscom US CEO Forum, added: "The next phase of AI is not about experimentation alone. Enterprises now need to convert AI capability into production value. That requires data readiness, workflow redesign, secure deployment, governance and change management. These are areas where Indian technology services companies have deep experience and a strong opportunity to lead."
Shift in Industry Growth Model
Nasscom also sees a shift in the industry's growth model, with future expansion relying less on headcount and more on platforms, proprietary assets, domain expertise, and outcome-based delivery. Business process services are expected to evolve from routine transaction processing to intelligence-led operations, with human roles increasingly focused on supervision, analytics, exception handling, and decision support.
The forum, held at the Consulate General of India in New York, was attended by Governor Matt Meyer, Secretary Charuni Patibanda-Sanchez, and CEOs of Indian technology companies operating in the US. The event highlighted the growing importance of AI in driving technology services revenue and the need for enterprises to move beyond pilots to production-level AI deployments.
