For technology leaders evaluating product design and engineering innovation, the humble power bank has long been a commodity. According to WIRED, Nimble's new SharePower introduces a modular design that allows the battery pack to be snapped in half, turning one 10,000-mAh charger into two independent 5,000-mAh chargers.
Design and Modular Mechanics
The SharePower is a 10,000-mAh modular power bank that connects magnetically with tiny pogo pins. Each half has its own built-in USB-C: one cable that doubles as a carry loop and one fold-out connector. When snapped together, it is a roughly 3-inch square about an inch thick. According to WIRED, the magnetic mechanism is "super satisfying" to pull apart and snap back together.
When combined, the unit can put out up to 35 watts to charge up to three devices at once, using the built-in cable and two USB-C out ports. A digital display shows the exact remaining percentage. When separated, each 5,000-mAh module provides 20 watts independently. The top half has the USB-C cable loop, a USB-C out port, and four LEDs for remaining power. The bottom half has the pop-up USB-C connector, a USB-C out port, and the digital display showing percentage.
Load Balancing and Technical Challenge
A standout feature is load balancing. If one half is used to charge a friend's phone, when the halves are rejoined, the other half shares its power so that both reach an equal state of charge. WIRED reports that this was a technical challenge, and Nimble cofounder and CEO Ross Howe told WIRED that the company spoke to the chipset provider used in some big folding phones (which have split batteries) to work out the load balancing — ensuring it did not keep seesawing until the battery ran out.
Charging Performance and Specifications
| Charging Scenario | Result |
|---|---|
| Top half charging iPhone 16 | From dead to 80% in about 1 hour |
| Bottom half charging Pixel 10 Pro XL | From 12% to 72% in about 45 minutes |
WIRED tested the SharePower and found the two halves can be recharged independently or together. This means that if you lend a half to a friend at a music festival, they can keep using it indefinitely until returning it.
Sustainability and Materials
Nimble emphasizes sustainability. According to WIRED, the company is fully certified and 100% CO2-accountable. It uses recycled plastics, plastic-free packaging, and plant-based materials, and offers free e-waste recycling of its products. The SharePower is made from 100% recycled plastic, BPA- and PFAS-free, and carbon-neutral. The review unit was a blue limited-edition version that will launch at Apple. The white power bank comes inside a kind of jelly case that adds texture. It also comes in pink, allowing users to change the look.
The Summer Collection
The SharePower is part of Nimble's summer collection, which includes two new versions of existing chargers:
- Wally Pro Stretch ($60): a 5,000-mAh power bank with a 2-foot retractable USB-C cable and fold-out prongs, so it can plug directly into an outlet. It charges at 20 watts as a power bank and works as a 30-watt wall charger, with a digital display.
- Champ Stretch ($80): a 10,000-mAh portable charger with a 2-foot retractable USB-C cable at one end, a digital display, and a spare USB-C port. It also comes in an Apple-exclusive limited edition with the jelly case.
These products demonstrate Nimble's approach to combining thoughtful design, practical charging solutions, and environmental responsibility.
