Logistics Global ship orderbook growth hits fastest pace since pre-Lehman boom as orderbook swells 27%
Global shipbuilding orderbook growth reached 27% year-on-year, the fastest since the eve of the 2008 financial crisis, according to Splash247. Clarksons Research data shows 9,012 ships totalling 405.9m gt on order, with Greek and Chinese owners leading contracting. Industry executives at Posidonia warned that the record $2.4trn fleet-and-orderbook value may be signalling an overheated market.
Logistics Global Ship Lease expands newbuild programme with five more midsize boxships
Global Ship Lease (GSL) has ordered five more midsize containerships for about $413m, with delivery in 2029 and multi-year charters averaging 8.1 years. This brings its newbuilding programme to 15 ships, expected to generate over $1bn in adjusted EBITDA. The company also emerged as an owner behind a 13-ship order at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding.
Logistics Fortescue Charters Up to 12 Ammonia-Capable Newcastlemax Bulk Carriers from CMB.TECH
Fortescue has signed an agreement with CMB.TECH to charter up to 12 ammonia-capable newcastlemax bulk carriers from Bocimar. Up to three vessels will be delivered with dual-fuel ammonia engines by end of 2026, while nine will be ammonia-ready. The deal represents one of the largest commercial commitments to ammonia-capable bulk carriers and could cut CO2 emissions by 250,000 tonnes annually if operated on green ammonia.
Logistics Euroseas Expands Feeder Containership Orderbook with Two Additional 1,800 TEU Vessels
Euroseas has exercised options for two additional 1,800 TEU feeder containerships at Nantong CIMC Sinopacific, continuing its fleet renewal. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in December 2028 and March 2029, at a cost of about $32.26 million each. The order brings Euroseas' total newbuilding backlog to 12 vessels.
