Hyderabad-based defence manufacturer Sigma Advanced Systems announced on Monday it has bagged a US$21.97 million (nearly Rs 208 crore) export contract to produce and supply 40,000 units of 155 mm M107 artillery shell bodies to a customer in North America.

The company will deliver 40,000 shell bodies over a period of six months, with production and shipments scheduled for completion within that timeline. According to Sigma Advanced Systems, the contract involves manufacturing 155 mm shell bodies—a core structural element of artillery ammunition that demands advanced metallurgical expertise, high-precision machining, heat treatment, and rigorous quality assurance to perform reliably under extreme operating conditions.

Strategic Expansion and Industry Context

Industry demand for 155 mm ammunition components has risen as the calibre remains the global standard for modern artillery systems and is widely used across NATO and allied platforms, Sigma noted. The scale of the order also underlines Sigma’s capacity to execute high-volume, mission-critical manufacturing programmes for international customers, the company added.
Company Profile and Future Outlook
Sigma Advanced Systems operates across India and the UK, with expansion underway in the United States. The company has secured the required export authorisation from the Department of Defence Production under the Ministry of Defence. Commenting on the order, Sunil Kalidindi, CEO and executive director of Sigma Advanced Systems, said:
“This contract reflects the confidence international customers place in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem and in Sigma’s ability to deliver complex, high-precision products at scale.”
Sigma said the deal strengthens its credentials in global defence supply chains amid a broader shift toward diversified, reliable manufacturing partners. The company emphasised that the contract reinforces India's position as a credible source of defence hardware and ammunition components for international markets.
