Fujian Shipping Expands Fleet with Heavylift Newbuilds

Fujian Shipping Group has placed an order for four multipurpose heavylift vessels at Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering. This strategic move is part of the company's ongoing fleet renewal program, aimed at enhancing its capabilities in the burgeoning project cargo market.

Fleet Expansion and Capabilities

The new vessels, each with a deadweight tonnage (dwt) of 62,000, are designed to serve both bulk and breakbulk trades. They combine the cargo-carrying capacity of a supramax bulker with advanced heavy-lift capabilities. Each ship will be equipped with four deck cranes, offering a combined lifting capacity of up to 300 tonnes, suitable for oversized cargoes like wind turbine components and industrial modules.

Strategic Implications

This order is a continuation of Fujian Shipping's strategy to modernize its fleet. In September 2024, the company ordered four 82,000 dwt kamsarmax bulk carriers, and in November 2023, two 63,500 dwt ultramaxes. These investments underscore Fujian Shipping's commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in the shipping industry.

"The newbuilds will significantly enhance our project cargo capabilities, allowing us to better serve the growing demands of the global supply chain," said a spokesperson from Fujian Shipping.

Market Context

The order also benefits Nantong Xiangyu, which has been strengthening its position in the multipurpose and bulk carrier sectors. The shipyard has attracted a growing list of domestic and international owners, further solidifying its reputation in the industry.

Specification Details
Deadweight Tonnage 62,000 dwt
Crane Capacity 300 tonnes
