Ford Recalls 420,000 Vehicles Over Seat Belt Defect

Ford Motor Co. has announced a significant recall affecting nearly 420,000 vehicles in the United States. This recall is due to a defect in the seat belts that could potentially increase the risk of injury during a crash. The affected models include the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator from model years 2018 through 2022.

Recall Details

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that the seat belts in these vehicles may inadvertently lock, preventing them from retracting or extending properly. This malfunction could lead to injuries if a crash occurs, as the seat belt may not function as intended.

  • Models Affected: Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator
  • Model Years: 2018-2022
  • Total Vehicles Recalled: 420,000

Why Now?

This recall expands upon two previous NHTSA recalls related to the same issue. Ford has acknowledged two warranty claims and two field reports associated with this defect. Additionally, there has been one reported injury linked to the malfunctioning seat belts.

"Safety is our top priority, and we are committed to addressing this issue promptly," said a Ford spokesperson.

Owner Notification and Resolution

Vehicle owners will receive notification letters by mail, instructing them to bring their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership. At the dealership, both front seat belt retractors will be inspected, and any affected retractors will be replaced free of charge.

Comparative Data

Model Years Affected Total Recalled
Ford Expedition 2018-2022 420,000
Lincoln Navigator 2018-2022 420,000

Production Timeline

Ford owners seeking additional information can contact the company's customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The recall process is expected to commence immediately, with notifications being sent out in the coming weeks.
