The strategic partnership between the National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India (NCDFI) and Assam Rifles marks a significant step in enhancing supply chain resilience in north-east India. This agreement is set to bolster the distribution of dairy products to military units, supporting both the welfare of personnel and regional dairy farmers.
Expanding Dairy Supply
The agreement, signed in New Delhi, expands the supply of milk and dairy products to 72 military establishments across seven north-eastern states. Cooperatives like Amul, Nandini, and Warana will supply UHT milk, whole milk powder, fresh milk, and butter, with Amul additionally providing cheese and malt-based food.
"Such initiatives reflect the capability of dairy cooperatives to efficiently serve the requirements of defence and paramilitary forces," said Meenesh Shah, Chairman of NCDFI and NDDB.
Quantified Impact
The pact is expected to generate an additional revenue of about ₹44 crore per year for cooperatives. This financial boost underscores the economic impact of strategic supply chain agreements in supporting local economies and enhancing product availability.

Industry Response
The initiative is seen as a model for leveraging local cooperatives to meet strategic supply needs. Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, Director General of Assam Rifles, emphasized the importance of timely access to quality dairy products for personnel welfare in remote locations.
Forward Outlook
This agreement could serve as a blueprint for similar partnerships in other regions, enhancing supply chain resilience and supporting local agricultural sectors. Procurement teams should monitor the implementation and outcomes of this pact to identify best practices for future collaborations.
