Borr Drilling adds 2,100 days of rig work and $267m backlog across seven units

Offshore drilling contractor Borr Drilling, the jackup rig player backed by Tor Olav Trøim, has secured more than 2,100 days of new rig work for seven of its units, adding approximately $267m to its contract backlog, according to a report by Bojan Lepic in Splash247. The newly awarded contracts and extensions span Southeast Asia, West Africa, Europe and the Americas, keeping several rigs committed through 2027 and, in Mexico, through May 2030.

New commitments top 2,100 days

According to Splash247, Borr Drilling picked up new contracts and extensions for seven units. The new commitments cover a combined duration of more than 2,100 days and represent approximately $267m of backlog, the company said. So far in 2026, Borr Drilling has been awarded 21 contract commitments with a total of 4,350 days and $541m of backlog. The company's total backlog currently stands at $1.13bn, the report said.

Southeast Asia awards

In Vietnam, the 2013-built jackup Idun received two separate awards. It won a one-well contract with an undisclosed operator in Vietnam that commenced last month, with an estimated duration of 60 days. Idun also received a one-well contract from the Hoan Vu Joint Operating Company with an estimated duration of 30 days, set to commence in direct continuation of the first job, also in Vietnam.

The 2018-built jackup Gunnlod was awarded a contract with a subsidiary of Petrovietnam. The six-well firm campaign is expected to commence in August 2026 and has an estimated duration of eight months, keeping the rig committed until April 2027. The contract also includes two one-well unpriced options with an aggregate duration of approximately 110 days.

In Malaysia, the 2013-built unit Mist received a binding letter of award from Shell's subsidiary. The campaign is expected to commence in October 2026 and has an estimated duration of 45 days, according to Splash247.

West Africa and Europe extensions

In the Ivory Coast, the 2018-built Gerd received a one-well extension with Foxtrot. The well has an anticipated duration of 45 days, keeping the rig committed through March 2027. The unit started work for Foxtrot in the first quarter of the year.

In the Netherlands, the 2013-built Prospector 1 received a two-well contract extension from ONE-Dyas. The extension has an estimated duration of approximately seven months, keeping the rig committed until April 2027. ONE-Dyas also has three one-well options available, with an estimated aggregate duration of 210 days.

Americas: Pemex extensions

In Mexico, the Galar and Gersemi received two-year extensions from Pemex, keeping each rig committed through May 2030, Splash247 reported.

Commitment calendar and outlook

The next milestones in the pipeline, according to Splash247, include the Gunnlod campaign starting in August 2026, the Mist campaign starting in October 2026, and the Prospector 1 and Gerd commitments running through March and April 2027. In Mexico, the Galar and Gersemi extensions run through May 2030. Borr Drilling's total contract backlog currently stands at $1.13bn, while the 21 contract commitments awarded so far in 2026 total 4,350 days and $541m of backlog, according to the company.

The new commitments cover a combined duration of more than 2,100 days and represent approximately $267m of backlog.
