A COSCO Shipping Ports-led consortium has received an award notification from the Port Authority of Tarragona for a new multipurpose terminal in Spain, adding another potential Mediterranean node to the Chinese group’s European port network, according to Splash247.
The project is valued at around €144.6 million, including applicable tax and interest, and remains subject to the creation of a project company, execution of the concession agreement, and completion of regulatory procedures. The consortium includes COSCO Shipping Ports, COSCO Shipping Bulk, and PTP Ibérica, the Spanish subsidiary of Argentina’s PTP Group.
Terminal Specifications and Location
The planned facility will be developed at the Andalucía Wharf area of the port and is expected to handle containers, general cargo, vehicles, roro traffic, and rail-borne cargo. The concession area is reported to cover more than 510,000 sq m, including space at Moll d’Andalusia and the adjacent La Boella rail-port terminal. The rail link gives the project a wider intermodal role, strengthening Tarragona’s ability to move cargo inland rather than simply adding quay capacity.

The award follows a public tender process but does not yet represent final concession approval. COSCO Shipping Ports said the formal grant remains conditional on incorporation of the project company, signing of the concession agreement, and other required approvals, registrations, and legal steps.
