UK Foreign Secretary to Discuss FTA in India Visit

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper is scheduled to visit India soon, with the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) being a key agenda item. This visit aims to strengthen the economic ties between the two nations, which currently stand at approximately £48 billion.

Strengthening Economic Ties

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India has highlighted the importance of this visit, with spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stating that discussions will cover economic, security, and defense cooperation. The focus will be on scaling up trade and investment ties.

"Our relationship with the United Kingdom involves a large gamut of issues, including economic, security, and defence cooperation," said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

The proposed FTA is expected to eliminate tariffs on 99% of UK exports to India and reduce tariffs on 90% of Indian exports to the UK. This agreement aims to make trade between the two countries cheaper, faster, and easier.
