Why trust, authenticity and wellness are redefining the future of beauty brands, says Blossom Kochhar at ETRetail E-Commerce and Digital Natives Summit 2026

At the ETRetail E-Commerce and Digital Natives Summit 2026, Dr Blossom Kochhar, Chairperson of the Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies, delivered a session titled “Beauty Beyond Products: How Trust, Wellness & Authenticity Are Defining the Next Generation of Consumer Brands.” She argued that the definition of beauty has expanded beyond appearance to include emotional, physical, and mental well-being, and that trust has become the most valuable currency in the beauty and wellness industry.

The Shift from Celebrity Endorsements to Science-Backed Trust

According to Kochhar, today’s consumers no longer rely solely on celebrity endorsements or traditional advertising. They actively question product claims before making purchase decisions. “Trust today has become the most valuable currency in business,” she said, adding that consumers are quick to identify inconsistencies between brand claims and product reality. She stressed that consistency in quality and transparency in formulation are now critical to retaining consumer trust in a highly competitive market.

Ethical practices, including cruelty-free formulations and responsible sourcing, are becoming key expectations rather than differentiators, Kochhar noted.

Holistic Wellness: Linking Appearance to Well-Being

Kochhar explained that the future of beauty lies in holistic wellness, where physical appearance is closely linked to mental and emotional well-being. She described how aromatherapy and natural formulations demonstrate that sensory experiences such as smell can directly influence mood, stress levels, and overall wellness through the body’s neurological pathways. She cited ingredients like jasmine, sandalwood, and essential oils as traditionally used for relaxation, confidence, and stress management, reinforcing the connection between nature and wellness.

Sharing anecdotes from her journey, Kochhar spoke about the early inspiration behind aromatherapy-based formulations and how consumer experiences shaped product development. She highlighted that early adoption of natural formulations stemmed from a desire to create safer, more holistic alternatives to chemical-based products. Consumer feedback played a crucial role in shaping product evolution, reinforcing the importance of listening to user experience in building trusted brands.

The Role of Technology: AI and Personalization

Kochhar noted that the beauty industry is increasingly adopting technology, including AI-powered skin analysis and personalized recommendations. She said the future of beauty will be highly individualised, with virtual consultations and data-driven personalisation becoming central to consumer engagement.

What This Means for B2B E-Commerce and Marketplace Operators

For cross-border e-commerce sellers, marketplace operators, and B2B platform managers, Kochhar’s insights underscore a fundamental shift in consumer expectations. The following table summarises key consumer expectations Kochhar highlighted, compared with traditional marketing approaches:

Traditional Approach Emerging Consumer Expectation
Celebrity endorsements Science-backed transparency
One-size-fits-all products AI-driven personalisation
Chemical-based formulations Natural, holistic alternatives
Marketing scale Trust and consistency
Advertising claims Verified product reality

Sellers and platforms that prioritise authentic brand stories, cruelty-free sourcing, and data-driven personalisation will be better positioned to build long-term loyalty. Kochhar concluded that the next era of beauty brands will not be defined by marketing scale or celebrity influence, but by their ability to build deep trust through science, authenticity, empathy, and personalised wellness-driven experiences powered by both nature and technology.
